Hey Canada (and the world),
My name is Ben Fast and I am an average guy! I live over on the left coast and I love it! I'm a full time student in second year working towards a double-major in History and Pacific And Asian Studies. It's kind of a cheaters way of getting international relations without needing economics. I'd love to do some sort of cultural studies/international development work, or writing and teaching. I love finding "new music", at least that is new to me... There's something about finding that perfect track that I think everybody on here knows is the greatest feeling out there! (Well, almost...)
As for who I am musically, I play upright-acoustic and electric bass in a city-wide big band as well as playing those instruments and sometimes acoustic guitar in my church or for various small groups. I was Fine Arts Director for my high school's student council for two years and had a blast doing that. I even acted in the school play in my last year and got a lead part! Who woulda known?! In school, I'm a good student who gets better marks than I should because I'm not the best studier! I'm super friendly and love meeting new people. I also administer a website for fine art. The idea is having a place where people can post quality works of art (Poetry, non-fiction, Fiction, Photography, whatever) when they wouldn't normally have the opportunity. In terms of styles I like, either Blue Rodeo or Barenaked Ladies are probably still my favourite band, but I also love listening to Relient K, Switchfoot, and Bruce Cockburn. I like most styles, but not really Metal, Rap/Hip-Hop, or electronica that is too...electric.
I love travelling as well! I've been to 35 states, 6 provinces, and Japan (for my grade 12 school band trip!) I really want to visit Europe and other parts of Asia. While travelling I like taking photographs of everything I see, and I consider myself a decent amateur photographer. I love exploring new cultures and new people (especially the food) so I hope to be able to do this a lot more in my future.
I love history and love airplanes but don't like spicy food. I'm all about playing the music, but can't really dance. My favourite colour is blue, and I still have a teddy bear in my room (on a shelf, not in my bed!).
