New Tracks for 2010

Posted by taiwanjason on Jan 18, 2010
Hey there, I just uploaded some new tracks, straight from my super-fancy spare room recording studio. Included is my personal favourite, "Age of Shand," my tribute to the oddball Clifford Shand, who in 1890 built a fabulous home that is now the Shand House Museum, located in beautiful Windsor, NS. My long term plan is to write a song about each museum in the Nova Scotia Museum system. I've got 2 down, and 25 to go! (The other song is "Thomas Chandler Haliburton," which is available as a video on this channel. Also included is "We Are," a non-love letter to my first English-Teaching gig in Taiwan, and "Flood," which has taken years to record. I wrote it in 1998 in Korea, Recorded the drums in Taiwan in 2003, and finally recorded the other tracks in 2009 in Nova Scotia. I may get some others up soon.

Who has this kind of time

Now that I've immigrated to Canada, I feel the need to try some self-promotion, but spending hours on the internet looking for places to get my name out are tedious and time consuming.  I'm grateful that the CBC has such a site...It's yet another thing that makes me glad to be here in Canada.  I know I'd never get this kind of treatment in the US, where I'm from.

And just a note about the name.  I picked "taiwanjason" because when I originally started blogging, there weren't any other people who used it.  I'm certainly not from there, but I couldn't think of anything more original, and the recordings I've done were mostly done there.  I'm still writing and recording, but it'll likely be a while before any of my Canadian-recorded stuff shows up.  Actually, that's not true.  "Reunion" and "Happiest Days" were recorded in Nova Scotian bedrooms, rather than Taichungian bedrooms.

And the one video I've posted (if there's a pic above, that's the one) is ancient history, only recently brought into the digital age.

About taiwanjason

I apologize if the name's misleading. I'm not from Taiwan, I immigrated to Canada by way of Taiwan, but I'm originally from Muncie, Indiana, USA.  The name came about when I started more seriously recording and putting my music on the Internet in 2003, when I was living in Taiwan.. … READ MORE
