Not so News

Well Happy New Year Folks!

It has been quite a while since we've posted any news here but its not for a lack of any, thats for sure. We were swept up in the whirlwind of touring then resting then touring then holidays and recording with friends etc. On and on it goes...

The cross Canada tour with Julie Doiron + Woolly Leaves was a lot fun and a little bit scary at moments. We got to play some great shows, a couple of stinkers, see some amazing old friends and meet a bucket full of newbies. Reception to the new record Trying to Get Somewhere seems to be pretty favorable all in all, though consensus seems to be we're ten years too late. Blame your parents. The record was in the top 10 of the Earshot & Chart Attack for about 14 weeks! This continues to baffle us, we're thinking perhaps there is some sort of S&J virus in the database, or a few obsessed fans we suppose. If only our label could take advantage of this exposure and move some f'n units!

Speaking of the label, our drummer has retired to focus more on that end of the Sackville operation. Paul has been replaced with the taller, more adept yet uglier Jesse Baird on the buckets, we welcome our old friend (Dick + Jim played with Jesse back in the Drummer and Janitors days) into the fold with open arms and wish dear Paul all the best in his future endeavors. Indeed we thank him with all our hearts for his uncompromising service these last few years, without him we'd be but spilt milk without a tear.

We finished off 2006 playing our first headlining show at Stage 9 in Halifax, the legendary venue has since closed its doors, hopefully nothing to do with our performance. We also played a sold out show at Lee's Palace on a four show tour with the Constantines, indeed a career high. To top that off we've just signed on to open another nine shows for the Cons + Jon Rae & The River, from Sydney NS back to Toronto.

Things have been gestating in the writing/recording department and we've helping out some friends. Steve "Baby Eagle" Lambke came out to the farm over Christmas to record a new record, new Sackville upstarts the Chorus Leave recorded a single and plan to do some more in the new year and high school prodigies West Ave are coming over shortly to work on a record.

After the Cons tour we'll be taking a little break, Julie's new record just came out on Endearing/Jagjaguwar so she'll be touring France for a month.

Congratulations to our good friends over at CHMA 106.9 FM, they just put on their fourth Stereophonic Festival and it was one of the craziest fun weekends dear Sackville has ever known.

I suppose thats it for now, stay tuned.
