use every part of the deer is an Ottawa-based alt-folk duo comprising ex-Winnipeggers Matt McLennan and Susanna Wiens.The band formed in 2007 and have established a consistent presence in the Ottawa live music scene. They released their first, self-titled album in mid 2008 to generally positive reviews, steady sales and wide radio play. use every part of the deer's sophomore album was recorded in late 2008 and is slated for release in late 2009.

Stylistically, use every part of the deer mine such North American musical traditions as gospel, bluegrass, classic country, and punk. Generally, they're the band that's too folk for the punk shows, and too punk for the folk shows; sweet two-part harmonies and violin melodies dance alongside somewhat abrasive guitar playing and occasional profane irreverance. Matt's lyrics, employing abstraction and surrealist imagery to describe love, depression, and political desperation, have garnered consistently positive critical attention. Susanna's voice has also caught the attention of critics, lending a timeless pastoral quality to songs that are nonetheless firmly situated in the urban present.
