"Although many would tell you the contrary, the first Inter-Stellar Music Consortium (2003) was not, in fact, a complete waste of time. It certainly seemed that way at first, though. 'This music... its so thin, spread out, metrical, so arbitrary,' complained a guest Melorian, referring to Earth’s tonal music. 'Contrived and overhyped,' lamented popular galactic radio critic Dzel. 'It doesn’t have any flow.' Not all hope was lost, however. By the end of the three-day expo, Earth’s music was growing on some off-worlders, in particular minimalism, and some of the more 'abstract' musics. Likewise the spiraling pitches and rhythms of the off-worlders were making an impression on the few humans in attendance. As visitors filed out of the pavilion after the last performance, many off-worlders vowed to attend the convention to be held next galactic year.
