White Owl

Vancouver, BC

White Owl is a four piece psych-rock band from Vancouver. Their sound is a mess of tribal drums, wah wah pedals, strained vocals and minimal guitar riffs. Live they are loud, raw, and have a tendency to stretch their songs out a bit.

Mike is also drummer in fellow Vancouver ER band, Modern Creatures, who did a massive US tour in May 2008. Bianca toured Europe and the West Coast of the US while playing bass for the Riff Randells.

In the summer of 2008, White Owl drove thousands of miles to record an LP with Greg Ashley of The Gris Gris in Oakland. The songs that follow are the songs will that will eventually comprise White Owl's debut LP, the soon to be self-released 'Evil Spirits'. Most of these songs have not been available before.

Side A (1-5) consists mostly of new songs while side B (6-10) is comprised of songs that White Owl has been playing live since it's inception in 2007. Listen for the vibraphones and clarinets (and many other 'exotic' sounds) that are scattered throughout the record. The album ends on a rather chaotic note, somewhat similar to the Stooges 'Fun House'.

The entire album was recorded in about eight days, and mixed and mastered in one. Everything was laid down on 1 inch, 16-track tape, at Creamery Studios in Oakland.
