We know about "environmental" music, right? Gentle breezes, chirping crickets, Pachelbel and Mozart cavorting lazily through endless fields of green, sunsets on the beach, cue the pan flutes. Very few of us spend the majority of our time in these surroundings. We reside in cities, we're surrounded by machines; we can't escape the sound around us. We live with them everyday and thus assimilate them into our consciousnesses, so that so-called "environmental" music sounds foreign to our ears. This music is a tonic, a balm. It has been forged to mesh perfectly with the sounds that haunt your brain. This music understands, and so do its creators. If, as Frank Zappa once said, music is used to decorate time, then the pieces on this album are like fireworks against a night sky. Don't try to predict their paths; sit back and let them unfold. With a Movement of Darkness on Darkness is the brainchild of Alex Pearson (a bassist by trade, but is also a multi instrumentalist) has his roots in punk, then he denounced live music all together and dove into the now trendy electronic scene. Now he combines all the elements of his musical past into his wide musical vision. Also featured on some recordings is Elijah Kamminga (a guitarist by trade, he is also a multi instrumentalist) he is a mystery in his own right, and he tells you so with his hands.
