The Nix Dicksons

Calgary, AB

What do Tom Petty, Jack Kerouac, Australian merlot, an eight year-old style birthday party, Weezer and the Alberta border all have in common? Well…nothing really. Yet, it feels like a fairly accurate way of describing the Nix Dicksons.

These princes of the prairies have played everywhere and seen everything. They could go on about festivals, charts, awards and accolades but truthfully, that stuff just isn’t that important to them. They are well seasoned vets of the Canadian indie-rock touring circuit. They aren’t afraid of sleeping in a van or on a couch, or driving through the Rocky Mountains during a blizzard.

Their live shows are strange; sometimes they are wild, colourful theme parties with storylines and costumed characters…The Flaming Lips on a $200 budget. Yet, sometimes the boys are clad in the finest vintage linen, playing timeless folk songs about back home and the family farm.

The Nix Dicksons have released three animal-themed EP’s, all to critical acclaim. The Panda was innocent and bouncy, The Giraffe stuck its neck out and partied a little harder while The Red Fox is gritty, honest and stole some hearts.

Toronto is big, Vancouver is rainy, The Nix Dicksons are proud Calgarians.
