The Flats

Ottawa, ON

Hands Across the Water . . . Which Side are you On?...

The Flats are a six piece, Ottawa-Chelsea based indie rock band that bridge the gap between folk traditions, raucous live energy, harmonious melodies and pure aural candy. The Flats began in the fall of 2007 when Greg Brayford, "aka Greggy B", was looking to add a band sound to the songs he was writing.

He asked two of his former band mates and good friends from Belfast Cowboys, Mike Peterson and Matthew Young, to join on bass and drums. In early 2008, an old friend from the Toronto music scene, Rob Commins, came along to play mandolin, banjo, bass and guitar. Mitch Pariseau (formerly of Hennessey), was yet another former Belfast Cowboy who joined the band to add a full guitar soundscape.

In the spring of 2008, drummer Steve Jurgutis (formerly of everender) joined to play percussion and assorted sounds.

With many influences from sixties rock n' roll to The Mescalaros, to Elliot Smith, to garage rock, to Sloan, more UK than USA, the Flats offer up compelling tunes brought to life in a rich, engaging and harmony-layered live show.
Their energetic and dynamic live show has impressed audiences at Zaphod's, the Black Sheep Inn, the Elmdale Tavern and Irene's.

The Flats are currently working on an EP this fall 2009 to capture the band’s impressive, full, lush live sound, due for release soon.
