Vancouver area-based quartet The British Columbians’ eclectic, old school blues-influenced brand of rock n’ roll, coupled with a fierce work ethic and grassroots approach to making music, is seeing them blossom as one of Canada’s few truly authentic, up-and-coming acts. The band has spent the last couple of years firmly entrenching themselves in the Canadian music scene, and in a relatively short time, they’ve garnered critical praise from the Canadian music industry and media, along with an impressive list of accomplishments.
In 2009, The British Columbians were named “Canada’s Best Undiscovered Band” in the Zune Concert Series Competition, voted on by an industry panel including representatives from Universal Music, Last Gang Records, Dine Alone, Roadrunner Records, and Canadian radio veteran Alan Cross. The band has enjoyed successful cross-country tours and select dates on renowned festivals including NXNE and Virgin Festival. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Broken Social Scene, Our Lady Peace, K-OS, Plants & Animals, Band of Skulls, Arkells and Grady, to name a few. In April, 2010, the band arranged a song entitled “A Fleeting Chance” for the Brita Water ad campaign “Change”, finding their music exposed to a whole new audience as the ad began airing between primetime television shows such as “Glee”, “The Biggest Loser” and “Top Model”. The band has also had multiple songs featured in TV shows including "Degrassi: The Next Generation", "Rookie Blue” and HBO’s “Less Than Kind”.
The British Columbians have received critical praise and support from the Canadian music press, and their last album charted in the Top 20 on the Earshot national college radio chart at multiple stations across the country, also receiving feature radio play at over 20 commercial rock radio stations.
As they gear up for the digital, independent release of their sophomore album 'Made For Darker Things' on August 1 (physical release date TBC in September), The British Columbians are absolutely “one to watch” in 2011.
