The Silt is a trio of multi-instrumentalists named Ryan Driver, Doug Tielli and Marcus Quin and they have been playing together for four years. They sing skewed love-sick roots ballads that can be rife with Beach Boys-Stanley Brothers-esque thee part harmonies. Any and all of them sings and plays the guitar, drums or bass. Other sounds that could occur in any Silt song are pointilistic slide guitar, lyrical free-jazz trombone, clarinet, erhu, and pitch-bent analog synth. Dizzyingly adorable, they seem to capture the loopy spirit of early Palace Brothers, yet with an underlying warbling eclecticism. They have had the opportunity and pleasure to share the stage with other musicians such as Michelle McAdorey and Eric Chenaux, Sandro Perri of Polmo Polpo, Jim Guthrie, Royal City, Feist, The Weakerthans, The Constantines and The Rheostatics.
The silt released their first album Red Whistle in the summer of 2002 and released their second disc Earlier Ways to Wander July 2004. Their third recording will be released in Spring 2006.
