Sinewave

Vancouver, BC

Sinewave (Mark Wiebe) has been on the cutting edge of underground Canadian electronic music since the 2001 launch of Interplanetary Ridicule, the first release on upstart Winnipeg label, 2Top Records. The album caused an instant sensation with its unique jazzy, smoked out amalgam of drum & bass, downtempo, efx and B-movie samples, going straight to the top of the charts at the University of Manitoba’s UMFM and closing out the year as the station’snumber one album of 2001. Interplanetary Ridicule was quickly picked up by other college stations across the country, debuting at number five in electronic and number eleven overall in Chart Magazine. The album ended up placing eighteenth on !earshot's top 200 of 2001 and songs from the album received airtime around the globe on Solid Steel Radio. Now, over four years since the release of the last CD, Sinewave is poised to make another big splash on the Canadian music scene. The new album Unity Gain was launched Canada-wide in February 2006 on Vinyl Republik/Maximum Music Group. The album has been a work in progress over the past three years and has seen Sinewave trade in the drum & bass beats for a more mellowed-out, songwriting based approach and some of the sweetest vocoders this side of Air’s Moon Safari.
