Before the 6’5” artist steps into a room, his voice first clears a path. To describe it as simply deep catches only one dimension. In fact, Skitz is most noted for his ability to throw the weight of his voice, burning heavy into any music track and then flipping an effortless vocal flex known for its agility.
Born Vaughn Bramble and raised in Toronto’s east end, Skitz refused to keep his music palette just black and white. His appreciation for sound innovation delivered him from gospel, and placed in the cutting edge of heavy metal during his early teens. When Eric B. and Rakim’s “Microphone Fiend” dropped in 1987, Skitz was lifted by the possibilities. He became consumed by lyrical expression and, over the years, sharpened a freestyle technique that to this day has become his indelible signature.
Following five years of honing his talent through live performances and studio work, validation and commercial exposure came. In January 2004, Skitz won Toronto radio station FLOW 93.5’s Soul Search talent competition, beating out several hundred contestants. His self-produced single, “What Da Funk” was his introduction to commercial radio. This initial track was followed by the infectious single, “Change The Game” (produced by Marcus Kane), which received national radio air play and music video rotation on MuchMusic & MuchVIBE.
