From 1997 to 1999 Nathan drummed with King Cobb Steelie. With them he toured Europe, Canada and the U.S. He left King Cobb Steelie to join the Jim Guthrie Quintet. He played in the Quintet for two years until song-writer Aaron Riches recruited him to form the band Royal City. Royal City oured extensively in the U.S. and did a tour supporting Sarah Harmer. They also did supporing slots for Juliana Hatfeild, Red House Painters, Arab Strap and Crooked Fingers. Together they made the albums At Rush Hour the Cars and the Alone At the Microphone which was nominated for Best Alternative Album at the 2003 Juno Awards. Also during this time, Nathan helped out on Gentleman Reg's second album, as well as records by Tannis Slimmon, Ox and Jim Guthrie.
Using all the experience he has amassed as drummer for some Toronto's best bands, Nathan has created an album of peculiar power, subtle glows and dirty menace.
