Michael Red is a music producer/performer, DJ, and event organizer. Originally from Halifax, NS, and based out of Vancouver, BC, since 1998.
As founding member of Lighta! Sound, and having played and/or helped organize the majority of Vancouver's major dubstep events to date, Michael's played a pivotal role in shaping the city's internationally recognized dubstep scene. The early 'Fire' shows @ the Red Gate, 'All Systems Special', and collabing with NFF on the consistantly sold-out 'Dubforms' series.
Previous to Lighta! Sound, Michael made solid contributions to the city's live ambient/idm/experimemtal-electronic community through event organizing, and performances under the name 'Souns'. The 'environments' event series, 'fire light lullabies' weekly @ the jewel of india, and the 'open/inputs' monthly @ soma cafe.
Michael is also known for his frequent collaborations with acclaimed inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq. Performing shows across Canada, US & Europe, improvising with loops and field recordings, while dubbing out and processing Tanya's voice.
As a dancehall and reggae DJ, Red was a long time resident at the legendary 'Bruk Out' weekly, and is currently a regular at 'Thursday Ting' and 'Anza Reggae Madness'.
