While Ska is a style of music with a variety of distinctions, the defining factor of a great Ska band is its horn section. Of the bands on the scene these days following the path of ska’s rhythm and roots, King Muskafa has a stand out set of horns. The trumpet of Eric Weiden and the Trombone of JC Jones bring the experiences of jazz, big band, Cuban, rock and pop to the solid rhythm section of Troy Nowaleski on bass and Peter Hendrickson on drums. From an uninitiated first look though it would probably seem that these young men along with guitarist Peter Belec are really just the vehicle for the knockout voice and style of Amber Suchy.
The influences of the individual members of King Muskafa move from the pure to the avante garde across a range of pop, jazz, world, and roots music. Through the music they play and the style they bring to it, King Muskafa is diversity, energy and dynamics come to life.
