Jen Schaffer and the Shiners

Toronto, ON

Jen Schaffer is an ex-pat Montrealer currently living in Toronto. Jen's music can best be described as country roots with a heavier bass sound and some soulful harmonies added to the mix. Jen's first-ever recording started out as a demo to get more gigs around Toronto and turned into “Angel Ridge,” a four-song EP with a couple of original tunes and two covers. The title is inspired by the time Jen spent living in Southeastern Ohio, in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. One of the original tunes on the EP is “For Teresa,” based on a battered woman homicide case Jen worked on when she was a state public defender in Ohio. Some fine musical friends supported and participated in the Angel Ridge project, including Blair Packham, Mia Sheard and Simon Law, a member of Soul II Soul, who produced the EP and plays in Jen's band.
