Hoosier Poet

Hamilton, ON

Dissonant yet catchy, intricate while undemanding, harnessing desperate anger yet presenting it with a crazed and caclulated smile. Hoosier Poet's music potently mixes intelligently arranged math rock with the unrestrained fist-pumping, shout -along aggresion of metal-core. This young Hamilton trio has been developing and exprimenting with this very mix for almost five years now. Formed from the fallen ashes of the speed-punk assault buggy PFA in 2001, guitarist Matt Fleming, drumer Nick Daleo and bassist/vocalist Jon Harvey picked up the pieces they wanted to keep and put them together as Hoosier Poet. They've been a show-stealing highlight on many a bill ever since, taking the odd trip on the road as the opportunity has arisen. Harvey's bass and harshly shouted vocals tear through the angular riffs coming from Fleming's guitar. It's all propelled by Daleo's fiercely busy, galloping groove, locking together tightly on unpredictably syncopated breakdowns with ease.
