Gown

Maccan, NS

Gown is the solo project of a previously isolated individual. It has been a long journey outward, including a European Tour culminating in a Bark Haze gig with Pete Nolan and Thurston Moore at ATP. He has released 2 solos LP's on Ecstatic Yod: "Sacred Mountains" and "Wandering Glory".  Another LP came out on 3 Lobed called "For The Maples" which features a full band(Sunburned Hand Of The Man).  A new solo LP called "The Old Line" will come out in the late winter or 2009 via Divorce Records of Halifax.  Gown has drawn attention from The Wire, Dusted, 200lb Underground, and Arthur Magazine amongst others. Some have compared Gown's music to The Dead C, Ash Castles On The Ghost Sand, and Loren Mazzacane, heady company indeed.  Gown also plays in the "Bark Haze" a duo/sometimes trio with Thurston Moore whom have released a LP's and CD's and Tapes.
Wire Magazine Avant Rock Section Says

"An album of stretched songs, reverberating prayers and mystical chants that he breathes over the strum of a loosely looping electric guitar"
The Village Voice Says

"Then a guy who vaguely resembled Napoleon Dynamite took the stage with a Telecaster; said, "Hello, I am Gown"; and shocked me with 20 minutes of mantric aches and feedback, a sound that mixed Jandek's death dirges, traditional Indian kirana vocalizings, and Sonic Youth."
