Vancouver based E.S.L. was formed in 2005 when Marta Jaciubek-McKeever
(Polish born pianist and singer of GIRL NOBODY fame) propositioned Cris Dirksen (half Cree cello superstar) first for love and later for musical enterprises. Joy Mullen on drums(THE PEOPLE VERSES) joined soon after and Diona Davies (PO' GIRL), the fiddle playing gypsy heartthrob, completed the quartet.
Together E.S.L. resemble a band of gypsies, performing uniquely orchestrated songs inspired by polish cabaret, Neil Young, Beastie Boys and Velvet Underground, to name a few. Their chemistry translates into magical live performances that range from gypsy punk dance numbers to heart breaking ballads.
In February of 2006 E.S.L. released limited edition EP's entitled Hawks House to much critical acclaim. Since then the band has been featured on APTN's "Beyond Words" Showcase and on full rotation on CiTR. The band was also honoured by performing at this year's Dawson City Music Festival. With plans to record a full length album in the fall, the girls are keeping busy with their other musical projects and are planning a tour for the winter of 2007.
