Montreal-based musical innovator ELE_K* (Elizabeth Powell) is pushing things forward with her self-titled debut album slated for release this fall.
The Royal city was where she tapped into her musical juice and early on she started writing songs on an acoustic Yamaha that she "acquired" from her aunt.
Influences can be traced back to early P.J. Harvey, Mary Margaret O'Hara and the Guelph Punk rock and Home rock scenes.
A brief stint in the Music program proved too constrictive for the young singer-songwriter, and jumping at the chance to front the Montreal-based trip-hop band, doppleganger, she left school behind. Within a year doppleganger had independently released an album and successfully toured eastern Canada. In the spring of 2002, ELE_K* would leave doppleganger to develop her musical vision as a solo artist.
She has just finished mixing her debut self-titled LP and continues to perform in Quebec and Ontario in preparation for a Fall promotional tour.
