I started writing music about 5 years ago and to date have 22 songs to my credit. Several of these songs have been entered in 'Song of the Year Competition' out of Houston Texas and have always placed in the 'runners up','The Shores of Departure Bay' and 'Forever One' being 2 of those entered, however, 'Ain't it Funny' placed in the top 5 of the Country Music Genre in October 2007 and again in April 2008, it also received a 'Commended Entry Certificate in the UK Songwriting Contest Sept /08. The Drums of War has received strong reviews from the judges at 'Song of the Year' and. on Nov 16th/08 I learned that 'The Drums of War' has placed in the 'Suggested Artist' category, and in May 2009, The Drums of War received 'honorable mention'. I The Song of the Year competition is International and to be placed in any category is quite an honor and I'm grateful for the critiques, feedback and promotion that I receive from them. Like all songwriters, I hope to have a measure of success with my music and that someone 'out there' will like my sound and be interested in performing my songs, as stated earlier, I'm a songwriter, I sing my songs only to demonstrate them. My music is 'tradional country'.
I write my music with the help of a Clavinova made by Yamaha, it's a CVP 307, the lyrics come after the melody. On two of my pieces I have the pleasure of my son adding to the sound. One 'The Casavant Waltz' he does the keyboard arrangement, and on 'The Shores of Departure Bay' he does the guitar riff. In "The Drums of War" I also have the pleasure of my Grandson Aaron J. Collicott, assisting with the lyrics. He is an accomplished Poet in his own right and I really appreciated his input and help with this ballad.
I'm happy to be able to add my music to CBC Radio 3, and anxious to see what develops as a result of this effort.
