Dave Olsen group is a jazz quintet that plays original music. The band was formed by piano player Dave Olsen in the summer of 2001. Dave is interested in composition and over the past few years wrote many original vocal jazz tunes. He performed and recorded the songs solo piano/voice but wanted to explore the music further in a band context so he enlisted guitarist Ian Craig, drummer Dan Holowachuk, bassist Ka-Cheong Liu and vocalist Maureen Bynoe.
The musical chemistry clicked from the start and shortly after forming, the band went into the studio to record their first CD entitled "Haunted By Waters". The CD features eight original tunes by Dave including the title song, which was inspired by Norman Maclean's short story "A River Runs Through It". The songs deal with themes to do with the human condition such as Hourglass, a song about the fleetingness of time, as well as environmental issues with the songs Our Home and In Dreams We Trust.
