Part of a strong wave of young Vancouver bands, Dust have a devoted following, particularly amongst the all-ages crowd. They’ve used their youth to their advantage, playing a steady stream of all-ages shows and building support simply by being approachable and eager to meet new fans. Says Simon, “The good thing about going to high school with people we know really well is that we have a supportive fan base.” Not only that, adds Koby, but, “Vancouver’s a good place to be. We’re lucky to be here.” Though they love recording in the studio, they are visibly enthusiastic about playing live. I can attest to their on-stage charisma and their ability to excite a crowd, with everything from guest vocalists and furious riffs to unexpected Bloc Party covers. Clearly serious about their music, Dust have plans to create a music video for release next year and, if all goes to plan, get signed to a label. They’ve already recorded a two-song disc, and hope to make it back into the studio to begin work on an EP. Anton muses that, because they’re a young band just starting to get their music out, “We can afford to take risks.” In this vein, Simon continues that, “Our songs generally don’t sound the same.
