Cherie Pyne

Montreal, QC

Newfoundland native Cherie Pyne lives in Montreal.

Pyne has released three solo albums since 2005: La Marée Noire (2008), Little Springboard (2006), and the Slippery Rabbits EP (2005). Critically acclaimed for authenticity, heart-piercing lyrics, raw, dirty guitar riffs, and vulnerable, powerful vocals, the homemade albums are available from Fred's Records (NL) or can be mailordered via cheriepyne [at] gmail.

A magnetic figure and longtime frontwoman of garage punk bands in her hometown St. John's, notably The Peep-holes and (Her Majesty's) Secret Cervix, Pyne also played accordion and saxophone in The Harbourcoats, a project started by Constantines frontman Bryan Webb with Mike Feuerstack of Snailhouse and Wooden Stars.

Recently Pyne started writing and recording songs for indie film with Matthew J Thomson. They wrote and recorded two shimmering, folky numbers for Sherry White's independent feature CRACKIE, which debuted in 2010 to a four-star Globe and Mail review at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and is now touring internationally. Pyne and Thomson's song 'Tender Steps' from the film was nominated for a 2011 Genie Award in the category of Best Original Song.

Currently Pyne plays in Ledges Blast, an all-female experimental heavy rock band based in Montreal. They released their debut EP, I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE IN THE LONG LIGHT, …
