DiggingRoots is a JUNO-winning band led by husband and wife couple Raven Kanatakta and ShoShona Kish.

To put it plainly, Raven and ShoShona are Indian royalty - beautiful, talented and embodying the spirit of generosity that Indigenous people the world over are renowned for.

One thing that characterizes their music (apart from some badass reggae and funk-based grooves) is lyrics that talk about Native solidarity... so I asked them about their activism. They responded with some pretty heavy stories. Raven spoke of the time a cop put a gun to his head during the Oka crisis and ShoShona explained how lyrics like "cut my hair" came from her auntie's experience in residential school.
