Wrath of Khanna: The Breakfast Club Bids Adios to the Hear Some Evil Tour

Posted by Vish Khanna on Apr 08, 2010

Morning everyone. My coverage of our super amazingly fun and fulfilling Hear Some Evil Tour wraps up today over the course of a few somewhat traumatizing breakfasts between Alberta and home.

For the first time ever, a server has frantically refused to be on the Breakfast Club. It all went down at the Hi Restaurant & Pub in Lethbridge, AB and it taught me a valuable lesson about journalism, which I don't plan to access until I'm in my mid to late-50s. Then our trusty '92 Honda Accord finally showed signs of defeat outside of Calgary, when the engine light came on. We were on our way to Regina, SK but stopped at a Smitty's in Strathmore for a bite to eat and a moment to hope that this old car would get us where we needed to go. Sure enough, it did, though the light never went out, prompting some amazing amateur mechanic talk between Wax Mannequin and I. After Mathias packed up the Burning Hell in Winnipeg for a European tour, Chris and I were left alone to make the long drives to our Ontario shows. Luckily I ran into some frienndly faces in You Say Party! We Say Die! who were playing Sault St. Marie the same night as us. I asked Stephen and Devon how breakfast on the road was treating them, just a few hours before I drove Wax and I back to Guelph overnight...

You'll hear all about it on today's show. Thanks for listening; I hope you've enjoyed my road reporting.

Have you learned anything useful about western Canada or its breakfast options on my show over the past couple of weeks? What are YOU having for breakfast?

    Good Morning

    I have learned the following about Western Canada

    -It's best experienced in a Honda Accord

    -They are mostly English speaking

    -Nobody seems to know Vish

    -Matinees don't exist there

    -Costco

    -A friend of mine in Calgary told me Vish was a pretty damn good drummer. I don't know if that is specific to Western Canada only? I have only seen Vish air drum so I can't comment any further on this.

    Okay for breakfast I think it's gonna be some yogurt and granola, english muffin, and coffee. I like to keep it simple.

    simple?

    What's more simple than a purple bagel I ask?

    Which is what I'm having...

    I've learned that there seems to be a time dilation between Western Canada and Facebook.  It always seems like TWOK here is a few days out of synch with a Vish on Facebook.  Someday I hope to explore and chart this time dilation.

    @Martin

    You know when Vish set off to the wild west I had assumed there would have just been a 24/7 life feed of Vish for the entire duration.

    live not life

    Although a life feed would be good too.

    PREDICTION

    You will not get to see that Matinee in Lethbridge!  This is some of the time dilation I'm talking about here!

    @Martin

    You know what is sad? You can hear some excitement in Vish's voice when he said they were going only to know that his dreams of watching Hot Tub Time Machine are about to get crushed.

    I learned that Western Canada is a cold, dark and scary place to go.  Never do it again Vish.

    Vish

    Did Mathias ever determine what the car engine smelled like?

    I'd like to think it smelled of bacon.  Or breakfast poutine with home fries.

    engine lights

    I get worried if my engine light is off in my car!  Then again, it's an issue because I know it's on because of an unrelated computer issue, but if there's a real issue I may not know...

    For the Official Breakfast Club Record...

    Please mark it down that I also had a banana with breakfast.

    I'm afraid I've already sent the breakfast club menu for today to get notarized.  I'll add it as an addendum to tomorrows Breakfast matrix.

    As long as future generations know what took place.

    baked oatmeal???

    I'm intrigued! Can you explain it?

    (Hi all.  For breakfast, I had half a grapefruit, an accidentally over-microwaved bagel which I then cut with a plastic knife and toasted with cheese, also cut with a plastic knife.  it was all overly fiddly, I'll admit it.  But tasty. And decaf. Latte.)

    Have you ever made the granola yourself? I made some for a friend on the long weekend and it's dirt-easy and sooo tasty.

    I would also like to have baked oatmeal defined. (we are all fans here, I think)

    I ate my usual cheerios and OJ. Booring.

    I haven't but I am going to try it now!

    @mikeV

    The recipe I used is 'Rose’s Whole Wheat Nut ’n’ Fruit Granola' in here: http://www.metronews.ca/toronto/comment/article/317746--breakfast-for-success

    I managed to only have to clean up one mixing bowl, one measuring cup and two spoons after. I like that in a recipe.

    Good morn all

    I'm also curious about the baked oatmeal...

    I've got yogurt and home made granola for breakfast.  Sorry no recipie, I made it up with what was in the house one day.

    @dawn.h that recipie looks good!

    @dawn.h

    Thanks for the link. Yeah it looks simple enough and like you said not too heavy on the clean up!!

    @rmelvin

    I just had a piece as I packed it up for my lunch. It is. Ha. The apple juice gives it yummy flavour.
