Wrath of Khanna: The Breakfast Club with Zeus (REPEAT)

Posted by Vish Khanna on Mar 11, 2010

Just as their Bonfire Ball Revue tour hits the road and their new album Say Us earns them critical praise and a whole new audience, the boys in Zeus join me on the Breakfast Club this morning.

What more can I say about our X3 Artist of the Month? After years in obscurity, the talented members of Zeus are basking in the glow of a remarkable and prolific year. All of that toil brings us to this ambitious Bonfire Ball tour with Jason Collett and Bahamas--a true, blue revue that celebrates musical camaraderie in grand style.

Carlin Nicholson, Mike O'Brien, and Neil Quin have suggested we meet at a Zeus hotspot called Kos in Kensington Market. Is it run by k-os? Only one way to find out...

Are you juiced about Zeus, their new album, and the Bonfire Ball Revue tour? What are you having for breakfast today? Is it juice?

    Good Morning Everyone!

    I actually was just listening to Say Us last night! Lets just say it has album of the week potential for sure. But more about that later.

    As for breakfast I might eat a rock....or I will have toast, yogurt and granola, and coffee. I haven't decided yet.

    Kos Restaurant

    I am assuming this is some sort of chain? Unless Vish has transported himself to Houston?

    kos

    A restaurant run by k-os would be pretty interesting.  I'd give it a try.

    I'm of course eating a purple bagel.  return to normalcy after a couple weeks of purpleless bagels on Thursdays.

    As for Zues, if they are touring here, I'll definitely be seeing them.  And if MikeV thinks the album is good, I'll have to give it a listen.

    alas

    they don't make it east of Montreal, so I am not very excited about their tour.

    Dr Say Us

    I forgot to mention Vish, last weekend I walked right by the home of last week's Breakfast Club, The Rex. We also breakfasted that morning at Kensingtons (if that is the name of it now - it was a Google Street View time).

    I feel like I am stocking you. On different days when you're not there.

    Friday night, the Bonfire Ball hits London at Call The Office. From early reports from Dawn.h, I am in for a whale of a tail show! And I can't wait. RedVinyl are you still might maybe coming? Anyone else? I'll be the guy in clothes rocking out.

    @ Mike V

    Close...it was beard juice.

    @ TB3 - I'll be the guy NOT in clothes rocking out, we'll make the perfect odd couple.

    Speaking of garbage juice

    My least (and likely only non) favourite thing about summer is the juice that streams from the ass end of garbage trucks as it hits hot, August pavement sublimating instantly into an airborne mist of aroma.

    Garbage trucks in Woodstock, ON are the worst.  The bottoms of them are like sieves and large particulate matter also escapes them, sometimes if you're lucky you can get it splashed onto your windshield.

    Speaking of stocking Vish…

    Don't walk by the seafood market in Kensington Market first thing in the morning when the catch of the day is being delivery.

    WoooooHoooooooowoooooooooa!

    Smells like shore leave.

    Any of you ever see the giant garbage truck that comes to pick up old busted up regular garbage trucks?

    Is he going "mmmmf mmmmf" after you're done? Or is it a case of "get the hell away from my feet"?

  18. suckamc
    18

    @Benoit

    perhaps it's just a case of we know Vish is going to be away on tour, so we're stocking up as much Vish as we can before then.  I know my basement is at least 1/4 full of Vish now...

    Didn't you hear the show is called The Garbage Club now? Each week Vish heads to the dump to interview a musician, and to score some soiled mattresses.

    TB3#9, daa1982#11

    It's even worse in upstate NY around the Finger Lakes (the cities of Ithaca, Skaneateles, Auburn, etc.) because the tractor-trailers shipping garbage from New York City to upstate landfills took the back roads right through there in order to avoid paying tolls on the NYS Thruway. When a convoy of garbage trucks rolled through town, things were terrible. This has apparently been cleaned up quite a bit (they're now legally required to take major highawys as far as possible) in the past couple years, but was bad before that and apparently really terrible back when the Mob controlled NYC garbage.

    But thinking about garbage is ruining my Crispix. And now I want juice. THANKS VISH.

    Zeus

    I love Zeus, and I was super excited to see them at CMW last night.  Unfortunately, the show was oversold, and people with tickets got priority, so none of us lowly wristband people got in!  I am saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.  I also don't understand why they didn't save some kind of percentage of capacity for the wristband folks.  We're people too, dudes.

    Garbage Face!!!

    Maybe you could pull some strings to tell the garbage people to stop throwing my pails halfway across my lawn?

    They broke the lid last week! I beleive they are trying to create more garbage!

    Well the joke is on them, I am keeping the pail and the broken lid. I might even try and fix it.

    poke.

    If you see Vish at the show tonight, tell him he had better not Tweet anything about the show during it!

    re: Wrath of Khanna: The Breakfast Club with Zeus

    Wristband'ers need to get there really early. I heard that most venues will have space saved for about 50 people with wristbands. I was 6th in line at 7:30PM and got in and a seat next to the stage. Kick-Ass show last night. Other then one tiny (well deserved) break it was non-stop music for about 3 hours!!

    I'm super bummed I missed the Breakfast Show. And this one in particular.It's my favourite part of the week. But I got home too excited to sleep so stayed up and chose to slept in.

    Vish: Please please please get the video fixed. I can't wait for the podcast now. Also, my morning without a touch of Vish just wasn't the same.

    The show was super excellent. I have a pathetically short piece of video of BAHAMAS with the gang if anyone is interested: http://twitvid.com/5A60F

    ATrain: Oh. I'm soo sorry to hear that. CMW wristbands. I don't want to say it out loud but.. ever year I hear people complain about them so I just buy tickets outright and never have trouble getting in as a result (but you pay more if you go to many shows).

  45. tb3
    45

    @Dawn.h @Suzanna @Vish

    BTW, I never made it to the Sky Blue Sky Sammich place on the weekend, because we were still too full from breakfast - that Kensington's is a very good place to eat!

    So good news for you Dawn.h, maybe next time I am in town, we can try it out?

  46. dawn.h
    46

    @tb3

    If we can get in. Torontoist is saying it's gone viral. Oh no. Toronto will be invaded by Wilco fans. I am one and so can't complain but that might see a sudden surge in scenestering. Heh.

  47. rocketbride
    47

    @dawn.h

    agreed. we didn't even think about this a festival event, just bought tickets and were in right away.  after getting shut out of the bss gig at nxne last year, we don't take chances if we can help it.

    did anyone else last night notice the high density of bands in the audience? we were in front of the balconies, passed still life still at the bar...it seemed like every third person had a "performer" lanyard.

    i had rice and flax flakes for breakfast, with pumpkin granola. no juice, zeus or otherwise. still exhausted, but it was worth it!
