Today on Lanarama: Starting an 'O Canada' Collection (Originally Broadcast 02/06/2010)

From age 4-19 I heard the national anthem approximately 2520 times.  (sang it everyday in school + handy math skills = number)

Back then the national anthem was just part of my school routine. You had to stand up, sing (or mouth the word 'watermelon' over and over) and to mix it up, it was occasionally in French.

Now, everytime I hear the national anthem, from hockey games to...well... hockey games, I get a little misty. 

This week I heard The Orchestra of Sound's version (made with noises and sounds of animals and nature), and if you haven't watched Classified's video for 'Oh...Canada' (complete with faux Canadian Hertiage clip) now's the time!

Any more versions to add to the list?

    I saw the Sabres play the Kings a couple of weeks ago.  It always seems wrong when there's no Canadian team and no Canadian anthem before the game.

    I agree completely, especially since the majority of the players in the NHL are FROM Canada!

    I'm very excited for The Weakerthans' "Live at the Burton Cummings Theatre" CD/DVD to come out next month, I was at the concert.. but for me.. it wasn't the BEST Weakerthans performance I've seen. Their best was a block away from the Plains of Abraham.

    John K loves my Burton Cummings tshirt and it's not every day you see the words Burton Cummings and Weakerthans anywhere near eachother ("The Guess Who sucked/Jets were lousy anyway" aside)

    I hope you're at least watching something great on the teevee. If you need something to watch, I've been liking How I Met Your Mother a fair bit (just started watching it).

    Someone mentioned this is a repeat... is the poll question a repeat too?

    Either way, I'm going to answer. I like our anthem but I don't like how I can't remember the words unless I'm singing it with someone else, then I'm perfectly fine. Don't worry Lana about becoming misty eyed. I used to laugh at my mom for crying during the anthem (well more because she cries at everything it seems) but now I've started getting misty during it too, so I guess both of you are no longer alone with your anthem induced waterworks.

    Hmm... perhaps I should start watching it again? The music sure would be a draw, although I'm not really sure why I ever stopped watching it.

    @Soop - If I'm not mistaken, both anthems are played at Joe Louis as half the crowd is from Windsor.

    @ Alex - Glad all you guys had a blast at Robson yesterday!  The hour I was able to hear sounded fabulous!
