The R3-103 Year-End Countdown!

Posted by Craig Norris on Jan 01, 2010

[The R3-100 orginally aired on December 25th, but hey... it is New Years, and this is a countdown show, so it works perfectly. Have a Happy New & please stay safe!]

Listen to the R3-103 Playlist:

r3103

[And if you'd like to share it with a friend, just send them this link: http://r3.ca/03Vz]

Here it is, folks! The numbers have been crunched, all the formulae have been adhered to, various algorithms have been double-checked, and even human input has been sought in coming up with CBCRadio3's Top 103 Songs of 2009! I call it The R3-103, for short.

Find a comfortable seat, put your feet up, order some food, boil some coffee, and prepare yourself to spend the next SEVEN HOURS (yes, 7) with yours truly as we walk down Memory Lane, stopping 103 times to smell the musical roses.

As we celebrate the music of the past year, I'll also be replaying some of my favourite phone calls to chart-topping artists from 2009, including a brand new call to this year's #1 artist!

All in all, this may be the most rewarding seven straight hours that you and I have ever spent together.

You can hear The R3-103 right here or on SIRIUS 86 on Christmas Day @ 5 pm, Boxing Day @ 10 am, New Year's Eve @ 5 pm, and New Year's Day @ 7 am! All times ET.

List as well please!  This is going to be great for me later (especially when I get the time zones right and don't need tol get up early to hear it).  Is your New Year's going to be as boring as mine?  Might as well sit down and listen!

After moving to the UK, I have become an AVID CBC Radio 3 fan ...to the point where all my xmas presents were CBC3 related! Such amazing music this year! Thanks R3-30, you rock!

    playlist

Perhaps my player is just messing up, but you see.. it doesn't even show the track names as they are playing, and thus I cannot add them to my own playlist! It is quite tragic.  I am liking lots of the songs, but don't know who they are by!! Alas, I guess I can go through the whole list later?

    #1 and #2

When I did my top 10 year end a few weeks back, I had a difficult choice between Metric and Joel Plaskett. Instead, I chose Joel Plaskett as my #1 of 2009. :)

Thanks Craig (and crew), really looking forward to sitting down and listening to this since I missed all the air times!  Good choices too, although the top five must have been pretty obvious.  I mean come on, how could you not pick those ones!  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, looking forward to much more awesome music!

    It's soooooo existential

It sounds like Craig Norris is there, but the show is a repeat. So Craig isn't there. But the music is. Less live-programmed than before, too...

    Existential, I tells ya.

    Craig: Human ancestry

From the 50 best wiki entries, the one on "humanzee". Not all that interesting until:

    "

    Genetic evidence

Looking back millions of years into early human history, current research into human evolution tends to confirm that in some cases, interspecies sexual activity may have been a key part of human evolution. Analysis of the species' genes in 2006 provides evidence that after humans had started to diverge from chimps, interspecies mating between "proto-human" and "proto-chimps" nonetheless occurred regularly enough to change certain genes in the new gene pool:

"A new comparison of the human and chimp genomes suggests that after the two lineages separated, they may have begun interbreeding... A principal finding is that the X chromosomes of humans and chimps appear to have diverged about 1.2 million years more recently than the other chromosomes."

    The research suggests that:

There were in fact two splits between the human and chimp lineages, with the first being followed by interbreeding between the two populations and then a second split. The suggestion of a hybridization has startled paleoanthropologists, who nonetheless are 'treating the new genetic data seriously.[9]" (links not disactivated)

Whoosh! Wonder, hmmm, how the Fundamentalists would take to that pair of knickers! Source link: here.
