Vancouver Venue Richards on Richards Torn Down

And yet again another great Vancouver venue has been torn down to build condos.

Though music fans have heard rumblings for years, Richards on Richards has finally been demolished.

Thank you ~~Dicks on Dicks~~ Richards on Richards for housing some of the best shows I've seen (Chad VanGaalen, Cat Power, Patrick Watson), thanks to the little old lady next door who refused to sell her property for 3 years ( thus keeping the venue open for a bit longer), thank you to the recession for delaying the condo project and thanks to the former staff of Richards for booking great bands and serving Pale Ale.

Alternate space?

I heard a rumor that they are relocated to the old Sam the Record Man space on Seymour... is this true? This breaks my heart. Although I don't live in Vancouver anymore, I have so many fond memories of this place. The best Stars concert I ever saw, Rheostatics.. etc. etc... Boy oh boy, I think The Railway Club is the only live venue left out of all the ones that I used to regularly visit when I lived in Vancouver (1997-2003).

I stopped walking down richards on my commute to avoid seeing this. I was by it a couple days ago as they were setting up to deconstruct.

I hope all the rumours about them opening a new space elsewhere are true.
