L Communication: (204) Represent!

Posted by Lauren Burrows on Jun 04, 2009
Today's guest: Mike Petkau (Record of the Week Club)

UPDATE: Interview now online!

The (204), an area encompassing the entire province of Manitoba and a wee piece of Nunavut, is in the spotlight today. I'd like to send a shout out to The (204) Radio Show, Rae & Jerry's, The Wagon Wheel, this Manitoban mixtape, and of course Silvorgold.

But that's not all! Tune in to the show and you'll also receive...
An interview with Mike Petkau! Mike is a musician and recording engineer who has brought together dozens of local musicians to collaborate on his Record of the Week Club project.

Random facts! Like, did you know that for the ninth year in a row, Winnipeg has been declared Slurpee Capital of the World? It's true!

Great music from Manitoban musicians like Hot Live Guys, Propagandhi, 9Nyne, Novillero and CJ Harder!
And for a special limited-time offer - you get a bonus playlist!

That's right, your host Lauren Burrows couldn't cram all of the songs she wanted to into the show today, so she's made a playlist of some other (204) peeps that you might like to peep. Just hit play!

As I was trying to say

So many friends on this playlist, including our dear friend Biospice in use every part of the deer.

I think as our climate forces us inside for many months of the year, it turns us into a creative lot. This list could have been a lot longer.

Blue Sky Addicts (they have a new release coming) Moses Mayes, and their new break off group, Le Beato, The Perms.

Of course I have a soft spot for Ten Too Many, my son's ska band.

Also many more that sadly are not on NMC, The Perpetrators, Oh My Darling, Johnny Cajun, I could go on and on.

Thanks for this, Lauren. I suspect you could have filled the whole three hours with bands from Winnipeg!

    Yesterday 204 owned me

I had two rush jobs form the same person who hailed from 204, so TheRadiohead, you're right, you Manitobans are shut in so long that when you come out you bombard us with things.

    Peg city holler!

Oooh - Le Beato sounds dope! And I am taking note of the other bands you mentioned. Yeah, let's extend an invitation to get a few more of these groups signed up to NMC.

Thanks for peeping the playlist TheRadioHead!

    Le Beato

Grant Paley's newest project, has a huge video component to their performance, and must be seen to be appreciated.

Here are some pics. They are not great, cause there is so much movement, it is hard to capture.

I will definitely be seeing them again.

    my pleasure!

Did you catch the Transistor 66 / Smallman / Grumpy Cloud set in the show? The Consumer Goods with Lonely Hunters combo was pretty sweet ...

Your cloud does look awfully grumpy. Poor cloud.
