It goes without saying that indie Canadian music is just great on its own - but
imagine spending a summer evening watching top Canadian indie bands in an intimate atmosphere as you sip fine wine, eat a picnic dinner and gaze out on stunning Okanagan Valley views at a top B.C. winery.
Starting tonight, you can do just that as
Tinhorn Creek Vineyards in the beautiful South Okanagan plays host to several indie bands as part of their annual summer concert series.
On the bill for
tonight is Vancouver favourite
Hey Ocean!, and
on Saturday you'll find an outdoor concert by award-winning singer-songwriter
Alex Cuba.
On
September 19,
Corb Lund will headline the big season finale at an event that includes a barbecue, fine wine and a free cowboy hat.
"Music and wine go together," says
Muriel Allen, hospitality manager at Tinhorn Creek. "And basically, we had a natural amphitheatre on the property, so the space was there,
begging to be used."
The winery has hosted many top Canadian acts over the past eight years, including
Blue Rodeo, 54-40 and Colin James. But this year, they decided to revamp the series and focus on
young up-and-comers.
"We want the Juno hopefuls," says Allen. "We are trying to attract some younger people to the wine world, so the entertainment falls in there as well."
Tickets for Hey Ocean! and Alex Cuba are
$35 - which no doubt includes a little wine tasting - and tickets for the big Corb Lund season ender are
$200. Details and tickets are available through
the winery's website.
"It's an amazing event in an amazing atmosphere," says Allen.
"On a summer evening, you couldn't enjoy anything better."
