Today we celebrate the fifth birthday of
White Whale Records with founder Ryder Havdale and roster mainstay Marc Morrisette (Octoberman). Previously a
Vancouver label, White Whale is now headquartered in
Toronto, but everyone gets to enjoy the festivities as the label kicks off an east-to-west
tour starting tomorrow. Featured one the bill will be White Whale artists Poorfolk, Mohawk Lodge and new signee, Edmonton's rootsy punk rocker
Eamon McGrath.
Also on the show today: I know I'm late to the party, but just last weekend I saw
Pineapple Express (I also saw
Silence of the Lambs for the first time! So I guess the Pineapple movie is pretty much on time). Not that I want to relate too much to such a movie, but there's this one scene where James Franco's character Saul is upset that Seth Rogan's character Dale is just smoking and leaving:
"Stay around for a while and we can watch funny things on the internet."Until that moment I hadn't really thought of this as a "thing to do". But why not? Sure, this internet thing has the potential to keep me up to the minute on major news events, but it also has the more-important function of making me laugh, whether through unintentional pratfalls and other calamities found at YouTube, or through expert sketch comedy.
