Where's my mind? Let me check Google maps ...

Posted by Amanda Ash on Nov 09, 2009

Hi friends. So, I've been trapped under millions of books, articles and readings lately. I'm slowly making my way to the surface. I can smell the sweet air! Oh, how sweet! Or maybe that's Lisa's new perfume? You should smell her; she smells pretty.

Anyway, I thought I'd give you all a wiki update. It looks like we may have found the wiki we're going to use. I'm just waiting on the super awesome Radio 3 tech guys to look it over and give me the green light. The wiki software is called TikiWiki. You can look at all the specs HERE. Whatcha think?

The next step is brainstorming what sort of information we want the wiki to include. Of course, we encourage each page to feature the normal info like history, accomplishments, discographies, etc. But in the creative, thinking-outside-of-the-box spirit of Radio 3, it'd be nice if the wiki could feature other information that would be useful to the music community. Someone suggested having a section on venue pages where everyone can note nearby food joints so when you get the after-concert tummy-rumble, your stomach doesn't eat itself. So brilliant!

Another cool feature I'd like to work into the wiki is Google maps. For example, on artist pages, tour dates/venues/ticket info would be listed on a Google map. You'd click on that cool red dot thingy that represents your city and voila! You know all the details about an upcoming show.

Ultimately, though, the content that ends up on the wiki is up to you. Got any other cool ideas? Want to share the type of information you're planning to upload to the wiki? Let me know! I'm excited! Only two months left until you kids get to play with it!

It sounds like you've got more than enough bases covered! I always love to know when such and such band is going on, beyond when the "doors open". Obviously, bands and timetables don't mix, so I always look at it as "the band goes on at 11" means any time between 11:15 to 11:30. It's a good way to gage when you should be where by when, especially if you're doing something else during a show (meeting friends, going to another show, etc.)

    great idea

the Blacksheep Inn, of Wakefield,QB, has an option for 'rideshare' to concerts & connected to their facebook page.

that's definitely somethat would be helpful.

in addition to the food(umm...hotdog from vendor in toronto kinda tops my list) , any other 'secret' or insider suggestions.  like good parking options or even, 'omg....every time i go such & such a club, they always start 45 minutes late'

    does that help???

I'm always interested in learning that the drummer from this band also plays in this other band and used to play in this other band but when he was with them he played moog and he's married to the keyboardist from this other band and she used to sleep with Grant Lawrence and so he and Grant have this weird love-hate thing going on and other stuff like that. I know the scene in Winnipeg is very inbred like that.

Including actual times when a band will hit the stage is a great idea!

Of course! The wiki will make it easy to include links in the text of a page that will lead to other pages/make those sorts of connections.
