Today on Lanarama: What Would You Endorse?

Posted by Lana Gay on Nov 25, 2009

Today's Guests: The Racoons, Woodhands

Today I read the The Pixies just got their own Vans skate shoe. I suppose I was caught off guard a little, but then when I started to think about it, Pixies having their own shoes makes a lot more sense than KISS caskets and football Hall of Famer Joe Namath promoting pantyhose

Oh yes, and lets not forget the time The King of Darkness expressed his love of ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter’.

WHAT WOULD YOU ENDORSE? If you could release a line of (your name here)products what would it/they be?

Post your comments on the blog or email feedback@cbcradio3.com

After some thought I think I would have my own line of vegan shoes, hot sauce, headphones and fine tip black and purple ball point pens (0.4mm tip thankyouverymuch)

    I'll see your pen and raise you a font - I'd endorce my own font!

    Seriously though, for me anyways, it would make sense to endorse a suitcase.  ;)

    Guh!

    "Endorse."  I have no idea how "endorce" made it up there.

    I would love my own line of 1960's style hard luggage, High Quality Beer, Corderoy Jackets and Shoes for people with exceptionally wide feet that are too old for skateboard shoes and think crosstrainers are ugly.

    What would I be a shill for, hmmm

    I think I could easily endorse some kind of bacon product such as well, a fine thick cut bacon, bacon-infused bourbon, bacon gum. Maybe I should just become a shill for the pork industry, me and them could be as friendly as pigs, we could.

    But basically, I like the idea of endorsing products I can stand behind. If it's not something I would buy, I'd like to think I wouldn't endorse it but then again, I'm not made of stone. If they drove a dump truck of money to my door, that'd be hard to keep my ethics intact.

    hmm...straw bale houses, or windmills.

    or a decent hand-pump espresso maker. The handpresso comes close but only uses ESE pods, which I don't want to buy.

    Like Joe Namath, I don't buy pantyhose either, but I suspect they cost a lot more these days than the $1.69 price shown in that commercial.

    Lana, you really should endorse polka dots, or something with polka dots.

    slap chop

    I don't have a slap chop yet... except I tried the IKEA version, which broke 2 chopping meals in.

    I would also like my own line of tea...based on my workday...it would come in a set, with super caffinated tea in the morning to wake you up and then a variety of different ones throughout the day, ending with tea that will send you to sleep. It would be based on the weather as well... sunshine days, snow days, rainy days... all planned out for you.

    Band endorsments/sponsors:

    I know that Jon & Roy and Hey Ocean are sponsored by Sitka...which is pretty sweet.

    I would want a personal line of sandwiches. Cubans, Cheesesteaks, Cold Cuts, Turkey leftovers, Dessert sandwiches even.

    My logo would be a smiling Dan Werb holding up a hero size salami and cheese.

    Our jingle would be Styrofoam Ones track Pavement. For no reason other than I like it and what Grade Scool Sandwiches wants, Grade Scool Sandwiches gets.

    Unless of course Lana ignores this comment. Ooh maybe we could have a Lanawich. It would be a multigrain roll with various organic veggie fixings, tofu steaks and smothered in three types of hot sauce!

    What would I endorse? Apples.

    It'd go like this:

    CUT - some hottie of your choosing holding up an apple

    "APPLES. They're f#cking GOOD."

    *chomp*

    CUT

    Dear Lana:

    I second the hot sauce! although I'm particular - it's not just about the heat. I like a good chipotle, and one of my faves is that good ol' standby - Louisiana! I like to eat it off a spoon to freak out my kids :-)

    I discovered in Grant's show that by not using that @, he misinterpreted a comment that I had addressed to dawn.h and read it as being posted by her. So, to avoid this confusion, I'm going old school and addressing people with the good old fashioned, "dear"

    I think it looks classy!

    I would like to endorse a line of bicycles.  Fictitious, of course, at the moment.  I am kind of modeling this after what David Byrne's passion other than music is.

    I dunno.  Make cycling cool again (not to mention a viable solution in city transportaion, commuting and recreation) with a musician movement attached to it.  I like it.

    Possibly a line of clothing that goes with that.  Looking cool, not just being strapped to a bike with Lycra and Spandex... but something functional AND cool.

  21. MoniSki
    21

    @krib

    Well, there would definitely be some Delicious Dill, Savory Sour Cream and Onion, Krazy Ketchup, Absolutely All Dressed, Burnin' BBQ, Holy Moly Honey Garlic,.... among others.

    They sound like the regular kinds.... but trust me, they are amazing.

    POUTINE!

    I would endorse a heat-and-serve poutine. Tired of going to your local small town diner and have a hankering for a poutine? But it turns out that they only have mushroom gravy and month old shredded cheese? Look no further than to the Mustache-co heat-and-serve poutine. With each box of heat-and-serve poutine, you get a large serving of home style fries, gourmet chicken gravy just like they do in the land of Rocket Richard, and a packet of squeaky cheese curds! Heat the tray of fries and gravy in your microwave or in the oven, put the curds on the fries and gravy and voila! You have yourself a delicious poutine, and without having to find a greasy diner! Don't buy the imitations, Mustache-co's poutine is the real deal! Buy it today for a Suggested Retail Price of $5.99, and if you buy now, you get a SECOND heat-and-serve poutine for free (with mail in coupon).

    And it's better than this stuff: LINK

    @Benoit

    A beer case with wheels, that would revolutionize the beer industry! Instead of having to carry a heavy 24 of beer, you just drag it as its on wheels, and it wont break as there will be padding on the inside of the box (just like when beer companies used to have beer boxes that were also coolers)

    I would endorse Pellet stoves .

    Reduce your Carbon Footprint !!!

    Wood Pellets are made from recycled wood and sawdust from sawmills. Stoves are now being programmed to burn different Biomasses such as switchgrass and Pellet fabrication possibilities are basically endless .

    Stoves which are well maintained lose only 10% of their heat output up the chimney as compared to up to 60 % for wood stoves ( some claim 35% heat loss but who cares when they are catering to tree killers ) Hydro electricity loses 40% of its output through transportation ...

    Even though "Bomb the Music Industry" taught me that getting your nickers in a twist over 'selling out' is silly,  it seems like Gene Simmons's goal is to try to make me slip up. That article is horrifying!

    @MoniSki

    I give you a more healthful crisp! Although, I guess those terra chips are something like this. It'd be cool if your chips were like that except less pricey and in more flavours than salt. I neeeeeed bacon crisps! oooooh, so good. Taste like they potatoes made sweet sweaty love to bacon before being sliced and deep-fried. But you gotta get the Walker's crisps not North American bacon chips which are still good but taste like flavourings trying to imitate imitation bacon bits.

    I would endorse a top ten list of the best chocolate in town. I've already got it started. I would also endorse yogurt; Fraser Meadows yogurt is currently my favourite. Also on the list: mitts, and boots for people with different calf shapes.

    I, too, would endorse tea, but perhaps I'll just drink Christine McAvoy's line. Her packaging strategy is genious.

    Cool, I won something! I haven't bought the Racoons album yet even though I've seen them twice (I got a shirt instead) so this is perfect. I can only hope that doesn't put me out of the running to get into that Cowichan draw on the next Trivia Tuesday.

    Btw, Racoons, I forgot to say that I love your shirts. Not sure if you have more than one but I have the "I'd rather be sailing with....The Racoons" which is in bright neon pink letters on a blue shirt.

    Easy.  I'd endorse one of my favourite products on earth: CBC Radio3.  Come to think about it, I already do.

    (My flash player at work somehow was corrupted today, and that meant no streaming audio.  My god, what a day of withdrawls.  Gotta get IT to get that fixed Monday.)

    re: Today on Lanarama: What Would You Endorse?

    Well...since 2 of the 3 best foods are spoken for, I'll endorse the 3rd.

    Coney Islands!

    Look here if you're not sure what a REAL one looks like.  Not quite as breakfasty as bacon, Coneys are, by my estimation, the American equivalent of poutine.  Delicious after a show, any time really.  MUST be accompanied by a cold barley beverage!

  53. Silvorgold
    53

    @CDNz1

    I'm sure you would love to see a Bacon poutine with some Coney Islands!

    That makes me want to vomit, but its a popular idea

    Also, there's the KFC Mashed Potato bowl, that's the closest thing to a poutine in US culture, but that's the most disgusting idea in history :( Atleast poutine wont KILL you in one sitting

    re: Today on Lanarama: What Would You Endorse?

    you could probably do some kind of bacon stuffing as well, although you might want to fry the bacon first so it's not too slimy (or maybe that's just my personal preference)

    speaking of bacon, have you bacon addicts heard of the bacon explosion?

  60. mcfflyer
    60

    @AofA

    (First of all, Lana, shield your eyes.)

    Well, Alexander, my wife Linda told me to tell you that she has wrapped a phesant in bacon and deep fried it.  And part of the cooking process included setting it on fire!  Boy, I'd have like to have seen that!  Personally, I believe in baking the turkey, but I have had it deep fried.

    My mother was raised in Mobile, Alabama, so I have a contractural right to use "y'all", y'all.

    61

    @Cody

    NOW you did it!

    Coney chili on top, sprinkle some chopped onions (courtesy of Christine's next SlapChop) on top and make little LanaFaces with mustard.

    I should stop by Lafayette on the way up to TO for Christmas and pick up a quart of coney chili and see if Ryan would do a one-off Coney Bacon Poutine.  That would just rock!

  62. CDNz1

    re: Today on Lanarama: What Would You Endorse?

    Re: Crisps - Lamb and mint crisps are sooooo good!! Were they Walker's Crisps? You should try the Lemony thyme chicken crisps. Mmmmmm, so good. Crisps generally taste like the foods they say they do instead of some strange salty flavour that says it's roast chicken.

    @Lee - Not sure I've had the pleasure of eat pheasant, but I'm sure it would only improve with the addition of bacon. I've never gotten to eat a deep fried turkey but someday I will. Ever had a BBQ-style smoked turkey? Those are amazing but then, BBQ is generally amazing.

    @krib - yes, I have heard of the bacon explosion. It is a very tempting project to undertake and would match the bacon infused bourbon old fashioneds I've been making recently.
