Jale "Emma" - ToD for November 20, 2009

Posted by Lisa Christiansen on Nov 20, 2009

A few weeks ago I started a blog discussion about grunge 2.0. It seems that plaid and wool are back and Dinosaur Jr. is hotter than even back in those early 1990s.

After thinking about the idea of nu-grunge, I decided that grunge never went away and just got absorbed into culture the way individuality became conformity.

What I’m trying to say is that it wasn’t all about Seattle. We here in Canada had our own guitar-laden classics, and even got the attention of ground zero grunge record label Sub Pop.

And further to this point, I think Jale’s Emma sounds as good as it did back in 1994 when it was released on the album Dreamcake. Have a slice and enjoy.

Eric's Trip still sounds just as great 16 years later.

I have to comment on my Dinosaur Jr experience. The Starlite room was packed full of people, but only about 15 or so felt al little pushy and started moshing a little bit. Many of those on the border of the pushy area were quite aggrevated. Come on now, has everyone gotten a bit woosy? I guess lots of kids there didn't want to break there non-prescription hipster glasses.

Anyway, A fella wanted me to help him do some crowd surfing...IT wasn't the night to bring about such an endeavor (although I do think it would be great at a later date) considering most people there did not approve. Also, 15 people moshing doesn't create a good foundation for a crowd surfer...maybe when the gaps on the floor are filled in (I didn't want to be directly responsible for a concussed individual).

    c'est tout, merci.
