    Witch-hunting churches not "internationally supported"

    The article actually describes some of the churches involved as "renegade local branches of international franchises" (emphasis mine).  In the one example given, the US and African branches of the church involved are no longer in contact.

    Would the "renegade" church even exist if not for the initial support of the international church? Do these churchs not bare responsibility for the actions of those they leave in charge when they no longer play active rolls in a community?

    @John Paolozzi

    Certainly the church that provided the original support is not blameless.  But "supported" implies that the international church has an ongoing connection with the African church, and is providing ongoing resources.

    And it sounds like if the renegade churches in question didn't exist, some independent church would have sprung up from scratch.

    Finally, I think there's a definite limit to how much responsibility lies with the original church.  They can't force people to follow their orders.

    Point taken. I've adjusted the line to be more accurate.
