Wrath of Khanna: Waking Up With an Actual Putz...

Posted by Vish Khanna on Jan 06, 2009

Good day. I hope all is well with you and yours.

As for me, today's a tough day. It's my first shift in a slot previously occupied by the lovely and talented Amanda Putz (or A-Putz as she's known in the New York Yankees organization). For her part, Amanda's doing just fine, working at CBC Radio 2 in Ottawa. And me? Well, needless to say, I have some big headphones to fill.

Now you and I both know that no one on earth is really up for this task (other than Bill Cosby; that man can do no wrong). It's going to be tough. But I think we can get along just fine. It'll be different yes, no doubt. Yet, like any new relationship, I feel that we can make it work together. Sure, there will be times when I long for the warmth and comfort of my former time slot and the early risers who greeted me each day. And yes, I will occasionally say and do things that are sooooo un-Amanda. The important thing here is that we communicate about it. If you're unhappy, why should I be happy? That ain't right!

So, let's try and get through this together shall we? For my part, I'll keep playing the exact same kind of music Amanda played. Exactly. The rest, I'll make up as we go along. It'll be fun, you'll see.

Thanks,

vk

    Waking Up Without a Putz...

Hey, Vish, I hope you like your new digs in the 9-12 spot. It should fun, and a lot like your early show, except, well, later.

Is Amanda still around at all? Because I painstakingly compiled a playlist in response to her pleas for new music for the troops in Afganistan. I'm not really sure what to do with it now. Is she still going to do a podcast? The playlist I made kicks butt, incidentally, if I may say so. I don't have most of the songs myself, so I can't burn it to send it. Help?

    Nice Cosby Show reference!
Yeah, still with the Norris I'm afraid.
Today he accused me of crying on my way to work. When will the bullying end?

Does this mean Amanda's not coming back to Radio 3? *Insert sad puppy eyes here*

Don't take this the wrong way Vish. I think you're awesome... but I'm going to miss her.

Thanks axis. That's what I figure too; the show will be the same but three hours later.

Amanda's not around per se but she's still "around" y'know? So, if you e-mail your list to feedback@cbcradio3.com, it'll get to her soon enough. She may even be reading this very message...

Wrath of Khanna: Waking Up With an Actual Putz...

Oh, Vish, perhaps I should reintroduce myself. I'm EastCoastKim, queen of roadside tire changes. Not sure if I explained before, but my sis logged me off, which I never do, so I forgot my password. Which means I'm "axis" 'til I get around to figuring out the password retieval system.

No offense taken at all Jivemama; I understand completely. Change is bad. I know people like to talk about how it's good but they're wrong. Change is the worst. Like when they stop making a cereal you enjoy or a line of sneakers that you've been wearing since high school. Or a watch! I'm worried about this Timex Ironman of mine. I've had it for 10 years and I think they stopped making it.

Change is the worst. Usually. In this case, I hope you can adjust. Hopefully you'll hear Amanda on Radio 3 again sooner rather than later...

Vish: I am happy you are of age and the pop cultural gamut to catch that reference! The thing bullies don't like, as I've learned from Diff'rent Stokes and 3 O'Clock High, is when you stand up to them. And good news if you stand up to Craig, he'll see your belt buckle… the one that says, I Dig Striesand. He'll back down, trust me.

Norris: I think you know what I meant.

    or

at least I hope you do…

    Hey Vish,

So when are you moving to Ottawa? The best part of Amanda's show was knowing that the trudged to work in the same snowstorm as the rest of us Ottawans.

    Hi Tom,

    I trudge in from Guelph.
    That won't do will it?
If I did move, I'd catch hell from Guelph people wondering who'd represent them.

You can't hardly win, can you?

    Ironman

Don't worry Vish - I was at the Ironman Triathalon in Penticton this summer and they still make the watches; they're even cooler now with nifty rubber straps that never wear down and yes, they still have Indiglo. Some things never change (that much).

Yes, the general consensus is that I'm overly whiny and nervous about this whole thing.

    Thanks again OneA.
Yeah, I guess I was aware of these actually. What I'm hoping for is the 'classic" design. They had that in 1998, like a retro Ironman look. That's what I've worn since I was a kid. I don't think they make that any more tough..

    Welcome Vish,

I'm going to miss hearing you mess up the sound effects on Craig's Show, but I guess since you're both in the same building you can always swing over after your show and do a guest producer spot.
One of the best parts about having representation from Ottawa was being informed of all the upcoming shows. Since R3 now has a back-to-back Guelph representation I hope you can find it in your heart to keep us Ottawa kids in the loop.

    Good luck!

    Re: Welcome Vish

Hey, thanks for the note Crozon Ottawa.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. I generally just try to talk about where specific bands are playing as opposed to focusing on particular cities. That said, I do tend to have Toronto (and Guelph) shows fresh on the brain...

I'll do my best to keep Ottawa shows in mind. I don't know if you know about this already but the following link might prove to be a valuable resource for you:

    Haha, nice one tb3.

Sounds good so far Vish! But you gotta feel for the Ottowars. Maybe you should move half way between. How long would the train ride from Kingston be each morning?

Awesome, I'm glad I could help.
Yeah, I saw that. Good for you. If anything seems noteworthy and you'd like to serve as a post-show correspondent on the Wrath of Khanna, please lemme know.

I miss the Black Sheep. For a while there, I seemed to be able to drop by every couple of months. Is it true Maverick's is all renovated? I played a show there like three years ago but I heard they changed everything...

Hi hon, the secret is basically to just blather on about your life as a child, rant about the inane staff at the coffee shop across the street, and then once in a while start burping, laughing, or even crying uncontrollably on air.

You'll be fine, just don't forget there's a world of listeners outside of the GTA (Guelph/Toronto Area).

    A California welcome

Hey Vish, I only catch the last hour of the show, but I wanted to say welcome from a dreary, overcast and cold Sacramento, California. Sort of like Vancouver without the rain.

Thanks for being part of my day with all of this great music. Incidentally, what is Norris really like? As charming and sweet as he appears on his show? Or does he have a darker side? Just wondering.

    Waking Up Without a Putz...

    G'morning, Amanda!
I'm fixing up an email to send you re. the playlist for the troops. It should be done soon. I've spent far too long on it. It's my ADD- causes hyperattention for fun projects. Anyway, you should receive it soon. Good luck with the new gig.
