Wrath of Khanna's Album of the Week: More Heart Than Brains by Bike for Three!

Posted by Vish Khanna on Sep 09, 2009

Yo. Hope all is well for you on 09/09/09. I'm sick and it shows. Sorry! My Album of the Week is More Heart Than Brains by Nova Scotia's Buck 65 and Brussels' Joëlle Phuong Minh Lê. They call themselves Bike for Three!

While he's mingled folk, country, and post-rock with hip-hop in the past, Buck 65 (a.k.a. Rich Terfry) has never really explored electronica to such a great extent. A chance encounter online with electronic music artist Phuong Minh Lê (she friended him on MySpace and offered to send him some music; he took a risk) has led to a stirring collaboration of romantically-rich rap tracks about love and its perils. And the two have never ever met! It's kinda weird and sweet all at the same time.

Mr Rich Terfry joins me on the show today to discuss this new Bike for Three! record and spills some beans about his new solo album, which he's making with Charles Austin in Halifax. Stay where you are!

UPDATE: BUCK 65 INTERVIEW CLIPS ARE NOW UP!

Have you heard this new Bike for Three project? Old or new, Canadian, Belgian, or otherwise, what is YOUR album of the week?

    Good Morning,

Sorry to hear you are under the weather Vish. As for your album of the week I haven't listened to it but ever since I have heard about this album a few months ago I have been intrigued.

As for my album of the week it would have to be Fortresses by Octoberman. It is just an amazing album!

    Oh Maria

By Jon Rae Fletcher, is what I am listening to this week.

It has touched me like no music has in a very long time. Passionate, pure, simple, beautiful.

Hope you haven't got the stomach bug that's been floating through this house

I've heard snippets of it and I am quite intrigued to hear the rest. It's interesting in the same way Black Mold is — a departure from what you're used to with an artist.

My album of the week, has been The Wheat Pool's "Hauntario". It's not for release till Oct 6th, but I have a review copy for nxew.ca and I have listened to the album no less than six times start to finish since getting it on the weekend.

Very lush, and great lyrics: It feels like an album to travel across this country with it's sentiment and introspective feel. I highly recommend this album when it comes out.

    sick

I'm home from work today, sick as well. bleh!

Last week I picked up Share's album, but haven't had much time to listen to it yet, perhaps it will be a future album of the week for me.

I also picked up Mother Mother's Oh My <3, and I love it. I don't know why it took so long for me to get it!

@TheRadioHead, I agree, what a great album. I have it on vinyl, I need to get a rip of it so I can listen at work!

My album of the week is...

Hayden's The Place Where We Lived. I am finally getting into this album. I picked it up on vinyl when it was released, but Hayden is not summer music unless you are at a cottage.
I think music would be better accepted if the artist thought about the season it is being released. It may not matter in Texas, as they don't really get any snow, but in Canada, we have four distinct seasons. I think people will be much more receptive to new music if you can catch them with a song that fits the mood of the season. Hayden=Autumn. He always has to me.

The other thing I have been listening to a lot lately is The National's Boxer. The more I listen to it, the more I realize it may be one of my favourite records of the past ten years.

    @KidGotham

I always thought the same thing.

You know who else is Autumn? Hawksley Workman.

I have a BUT for you though. Once you're in love with the album, it opens up to other seasons. I find. Hayden's like that for me, especially.

Re: Wrath of Khanna's Album of the Week: More Heart Than Brains by Bike for Three!

I totally forgot to answer the day's question.

My album of the week is Kensington Heights.. again. But I'm crossing my fingers that my friend will buy (and share) the new Two Hours Traffic.

In the meantime, a online comic reminded me of Polvo (hee) so I'm listening to that in the car today. Anybody listen to em?

And Vish.. and Martin.. and tb3 and family: Feel better soon, buddies.

Agreed. Once you are in love with a record, it can be listened to year round. I think I just am not as receptive with new music, even from artist's I love, outside of whatever season I have associated them with.
My main exception to this would be The Weakerthans. I could listen to them whenever, when, logically, they seem more of a winter band to me. I have always been able to listen to them year round. They don't fit the mold I guess.

    Album of the week

I'm looking forward to getting a copy of this album and I'm rather excited that it is being sold on vinyl. Been a big fan of Buck 65 for a very long time.

Also I think this is the first time I have heard the Wrath of Khanna in a long time. Damn these early morning deadlines.

I have decided that I should not be the first person in to the office in the morning I make rather gross coffee.

Chapel Hill made some great great rock and/or roll in the 90's! As did Touch & Go.

    Polvo.
    Yes, I absolutely remember them!

    Good call, good call.

Just found out that Jay Z bumped up the Blueprint 3 release date, so I'll be picking that up after work.
