Wrath of Khanna: The Breakfast Club with Wax Mannequin!

Posted by Vish Khanna on Sep 03, 2009
Hellooooo! I mean, Hello. How are you? This week on the Breakfast Club, I'm meeting with an enigmatic, super talented power-folk-rocker from Hamilton, Ontario who goes by the handle Wax Mannequin! Strange and brooding, normal and cheery, Wax has just made an astonishing new record for Zunior called Saxon and it's getting its own release show at the Horseshoe Tavern tonight!

Wax had initially suggested we head over to Sneaky Dee's for breakfast today but I nixed that quick; as I discovered with Spiral Beach, that joint isn't open early enough for this show. So, on Pedro's recommendation, we're planning on meeting at Mitzi's on College, a place neither of us have been before, to see what they can do for us and our tummies. He's coming in from Hamilton, me from Guelph. It's like a race to the death, except in this case death is just a plate of invariably yellow food and also neither of us is in charge of our modes of transport. Still, one of us might die on the show so tune in!

Do you believe that Wax Mannequin is the best? What about that
Saxon, huh? Pretty impressive! What are you having for breakfast today?

    Also..

    I forgot to say Good Morning Vish! It's the polite thing to do.

    Am I wrong but could the names of these breakfast joints sound like band names? I am huge fan of Sneaky Dee's first album, and if you ever have see Mitzi's on College live you will be blown away.

    Good morning to everyone! I am happy you see, it is because all of my stupid work term paperwork is finished! Paperwork is stupid and should die.

    IN regards to your posting today on the internet, Mr. Khanna,

    Every time I show my wife Wax's guitar string picture, she is full-on wigged out.

    Is it a drop D tuning he is using in that photo?

    Also when in Toronto this weekend we drove by Mitzi's Sister. So can you tell Mitzi we saw her? We didn't eat there. We ate at Fran's on College. And I'd totally recommend it if you need a place that is a short walk from the Delta Chelsea.

    In regards to the band Spookey Ruben,

    Does seeing this song make any of you fine gentlemen and/or ladies lust after a finely made Ruben sandwich? I do belive I shall have to get one for lunch today.

    Those are lots of adjectives, Vish

    So, I gave Wax Mannequin's songs on his NMC page a listen.

    His bio says Hamilton breeds strange and variant things, I say water colour ducks on a lake.

    Polite

    Hi everyone! Thanks for being you and for coming over for breakfast! There are bees or wasps or something everywhere!

    In regards to Mr.MikeV's rather abrupt inquiry

    I have that disease where my senses are messed up, I can see sounds and taste touches. Triangles taste terrible.

    @fumblebee

    At least you are not hallucinating bees or wasps.
  13. fumblebee
    13

    @Mike

    You know what else tastes terrible? Bee stings. I have actually gotten stung on the tounge once when I was little. I also got stung on the eye. Bees don't really like me.

    @beards

    you still have the beard Vish?

    @fumblebee, what did you do to anger all the bees?

    I feel like I need to not be alone in ridiculous facial hair growth... though I'm sure yours is much less silly than mine:

    Terrible Horrible Stinging things

    I revile wasps. One stung me while I was driving home from Boston in July. On my chest. Most painful thing ever. I was in this really rural stretch of road between Bangor and Calais, Maine, so the best I could do was grab a slushy at a gas station and hold it against the sting. And feel sorry for myself. I was due for work that afternoon so I soldiered on. On a brighter note, the wasp died a quick horrible death, impaling his stinger in some trim on my skirt for a second sting, and ripping his butt off when it got stuck. Ha! They are evil and useless creatures. Death to them all.

    Vish..

    So.. did we lose the play-lots-of-the-artist's-songs battle?
  25. Vish Khanna

    @axis

    If one of these things stings me, I'm going after all of them.

    Re: Wrath of Khanna: The Breakfast Club with Wax Mannequin!

    Retelling that story made me jumpy. I think I need a coffee to calm down.

    Vish, just interview the Thoughtful Bees. They're a little hyper, but not likely to sting. Although Rebecca's a little unpredictible. Just bring lots of honey.

    Awww. I'm super sad.

    (But happy too because I just read that I won the CD yesterday and am REALLY excited to hear it)

    @Vish

    All this insect interviewing has me thinking you don't interview nearly enough animals on the show. Unless you include people as animals?

    Re: Wrath of Khanna: The Breakfast Club with Wax Mannequin!

    Well I AM listening - I knew they were everywhere. It was just that photo of toast and a BlackBerry and a pen and.. see I was really looking at that picture a lot. But didn't see the bee the whole time. The human brain.. weirdo.
  33. MikeV
    33

    Wasps

    You know what is annoying about them they have no sense of irony. Wasps unlike bees don't produce wax and thus just don't fit in with today's show.

    34

    @Mike.V

    As always Mike, an interesting and helpful observation...

    Comb binding.

    37

    @Vish

    Many wasps do produce a paper substance though. Perhaps Paper Moon or the Paper Cranes would be wasp appropriate? Keep it mind sir.

    "Everything and Everyone"

    The whole time I was throwing to this song, I had it mistaken with "Doin,'" which is always in my head. Sorry everyone! But you can dance to this song too.
