Hi friends. Guess who's back at CBC Radio 3? Me, of course. I just couldn't stay away!
I'm back at my old desk, the one I sat in when I was an intern here in May. Right now I'm whittling away at a new project that's going to take over my life for the next four months. In August, I was awarded a $15,000 grant to research and develop a Canadian music wiki in conjunction with Radio 3.
The aim is to create a "Wikipedia" of Canadian music that will allow fans, musicians, and journalists alike to share their passion for music through a user-generated, media-rich online resource.
Cool, huh?
This wiki is also my thesis for the Master's of Journalism degree I'm taking at UBC. School's never been more fun! From a research point of view, the wiki will look at the value of user-generated content within Canada's public broadcasting system.
Right now I'm reading Andrew Lih's The Wikipedia Revolution. I've also got a stack of other books I've got to read over the next few weeks. Keeping in the collaborative media vein, it'd be great if you guys pitched in with any thoughts or advice on how we can make this wiki the best one-stop destination for Canadian music.
What would you like to see included in the wiki? Know anything about rich media legalities? Or the best wiki software to use?
I'm all ears. Or eyes, I guess.
