Hello Grant,

I heard The Mountains and the Trees on the last podcast, and then again just a few minutes ago, and I think I just might have to hear some again.

Please?!

May I request some Sunset Rubdown? In particular Idiot Heart. Nick was whistling it all day yesterday, and now I can't get it out of my head.

Thank you kindly :)

Can you play Whale Tooth yet, Grant? Pretty please? With a cherry on top.. and a game of checkers?

Bringing back the bromance?

I was just thinking, I haven't heard any Peter Elkas on here for a long time. How about Willpower or Fall Apart Again. Actually, how about we make this a bromance request and add in some Joel Plaskett, something a little older than 3 like Fashionable People or something else of Ashtray rock.

Thanks Grant! Have fun in Tdot, seems like you've been going there a lot lately.

Could I get some older Immaculate Machine, something from Ones and Zeroes or Fables?

and just saw S.T.H.D. coming up, which is awesome, thank you!

Dan Mangan

After just hearing his full album, "Nice, Nice, Very Nice" I have fallen in love with Dan Mangan's music. Would you be so kind as to play, if possible, "The Indie Queens are Waiting" by him? If not, I am just as happy with "Robots".

Adaline!

Yes! I can never get enough of Adaline! I loved hearing her on your show last week, and would be thrilled if you could play Whiter/Straighter again. Thanks Grant!

What I'd like to hear

Howdy,

I'd like to hear some Gob. I know it's different than what you usually play, but I never hear them!

If there's a song I'd like to hear, it'd be 'Wake Up', but play anything by them that you'd like!

Thanks.

also:

Sunset Rubdown, Wolf Parade, and Handsome Furs all in a row? that makes my Monday.

Oh, and I was thinking the other day about that New Pornographers song Hey Snow White. I heard it once on here but haven't in a while. It's so fantastic. What's it from? Is it a b-side or something?

I'd love to hear some Jets Overhead. Preferably something other than No Nations, since you've been playing it a lot lately. I Should Be Born would be nice, or if you don't have that in the system, something older.

Or, if No Nations is all you've got, then that's fine too.

Just throwing it out there, feel free to throw it back!

It would be nice if you could play Young Leaves instead of Liberties! Mixin' it up can be nice.

Yay to Grant!

I would like to hear a song by Volcanoless in Canada. I was working at the Brandon Folk Festival a few months back, had an aweful time. Basically they screwed up my schedule, which made me miss many musicians I wanted to see. I got physically assaulted on the street by two wannabe gangsters, pushed, punched and shoved. However.. then things turned good (or should I say.. volcanoless?). My really aweful folk fest weekend was saved by a concert by Saskatoon's Volcanoless in Canada.

They can rock an acoustic guitar as if it is an electric guitar, they wowed the entire folk fest crowd!

Polaris Secret Weapon

Maybe this year's secret weapon will be Erin Aurich, who's got pretty good odds on Gala night, playing on Lost Channels, and as the newest member of Hey Rosetta!.

Could I hear a song on which her talents shine, "The Chorus in the Underground" ? Cheers!

I have been waiting for the right opportunity

to thank everyone who contributed ideas to the wedding song show earlier this summer, and to Grant for doing that program.

The wedding was on the long weekend, and it was a great night.

As most of the guests were musicians of some stripe, the fact that the music was not canned and generic, was not lost on them.

There was swing dancing to greats of the big band era, and I danced to "Chances" with my son, the groom. Other music ranged from Shout 4 Outs, to The Beatles, to Sloan, MJ and Daft Punk. And ska, lots and lots of ska...

The lap top was left open later in the evening, and anyone that could operate a mouse could choose music.

It was interesting to see what people picked!

If you can, could you play Sloan's Who Taught You To Live Like That, which is a great reception dance song!

Thanks again

2nd request for Whale Tooth

I'll go with dawn.h: pleez program a track by the abovementionedandidentified band.

Maybe 'Marlboro Beach Bonanza' or 'Clever', off the self-titled AND eponymous eepee ceedee.

<check check>

Ah, you don't seem to have the 2nd, but you do have the first, among their NMC tracks.

WHALE TOOTH! WHALE TOOTH! WHALE TOOTH!

@TheRadioHead

Open laptop to choose songs from at a wedding instead of a regular DJ, that's an awesome idea. Besides, it seems like a DJ just makes an iTunes playlist these days and adds in songs people ask for or moves something up the list to get people on the floor. Last DJ I saw at a family event had a great method of getting people to dance one song then clearing the floor with the song after it.

@AlexOfAnders

When (If) I get married, I think I should do that, or get a good indie band to play live music.

However, I've made it clear publicly that my wedding will NOT contain the following songs: Fishin in the Dark, Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy, Redneck Woman, Whisky for my horses, and the other usual bs redneck songs.

Fader!

You've already got Julie Fader - which is what I would have requested this week so I'm totally happy. You're even playing both of the songs that I've used on the NxEW podcast so far.

The 'Polaris Secret Weapon' thing isn't very secret though.
32. TheRadioHead
32

Ya, the open laptop was successful

You've got to be able to trust your guests to not just pick their fave, but to sense the mood of the rest of the dance floor.

Another thing that was a lot of fun.
The couple rented a photo booth, you know, the old styled kind where you pile in, act goofy, and get a sequence of 4 pics taken. But in this case, the booth printed out duplicate copies. The couple get to keep one copy that is posted in an album, with what ever you want to write as a message for them. You get to keep the other set of 4.

It was the most fun of the evening. A bin of props was available, hats, eye patches, tiara's, gloves, that kind of stuff.

What a lot of laughs, I highly recommend it.

The bride is a jazz singer, they chose a jazz number. We walked down the aisle to The Beatles, I Will.

It was the couple's goal to make the wedding fun. They had a room of board games, puzzles. and a pool table. Something for everyone, especially those who did not want to dance.

Re Julie and "mirror writing"

From Wiki:

"Research suggests that the ability to do mirror writing is probably inherited and caused by atypical language organization in the brain.[1]. It is not known how many people in the population inherit the ability of mirror writing (an Australian researcher estimates the proportion to be 1 in 6500[2]). Half of the children of people with the ability inherit it. There are more left-handed mirror writers than right-handed ones, probably because left-handed people tend to have atypical language centers in their brain. 15% of left-handed people have the language centres in both halves of their brain. The cerebral cortex (thin layer of dense brain cells covering the whole brain) and motor homunculus (relates to voluntary movement) are affected by this causing them to be able to read and write backwards quite naturally."

Hey Grant - I'm in SW France right this moment and my girlfriend, Stephanie, and I just checked into a castle (no kidding) for the night and turned on Radio3 after connecting to the WiFi network (yep, WiFi in a castle). Anyhow, Steph is taking a shower and it would be a pretty awesome surprise if you could play Changing Colours by the Great Lake Swimmers - it would make this night here pretty much unforgettable. Thanks and too bad I'll miss you at the Polaris gala this year... Nenad
