Today's guest: Drew McIntosh (Solidarity Rock)
I love the way that music bursts forth in the summertime. Instead of being cooped up in a bar somewhere, music is pumping from festival stages, buskers in the street, jeeps that roll with beats, and everywhere I've been this summer.
The unintended consequence is a soundtrack to everything I do.
On the weekend, I was celebrating Car Free Days in Vancouver, shopping on Main Street for a new hat. Sam Demoe was spinning outside the shop. Now, the floppy red hat I found will forever remind me of old school hip hop.
R3 Producer Mark Macarthur told me a story about hearing New Pornographer's "Myriad Harbour" blasting through these huge speakers outside of a fashion show setting up in Dubrovnik. Now, every time he hears the song, it brings him back to Croatia.
Also in the show today, we're going to find out about a non-profit organization called Solidarity Rock, a group of people working in solidarity with musicians in Cuba, to help enable them to rock a little harder. Documentary filmmaker, and founder of Solidarity Rock, Drew McIntosh will be joining me from Edmonton.
