Sir Paul McCartney has chosen Joel Plaskett, one of Halifax's favourite sons, to open McCartney's huge Halifax concert Saturday July 11, on the Halifax Common.
On June 16, it was announced that the legendary ex-Beatle would like a Canadian support act for his only Canadian tour date this summer, preferably local. Ever since, Halifax-area bands have been scrambling to catch the ear of Sir Paul.
Late yesterday, Joel Plaskett announced that they have indeed received the rock royalty call. In a brief email, Plaskett says he's "pretty damn excited". The show will be full-on "guys and dolls" Plaskett... the Emergency and the current 3 touring line-up of Rose Cousins, Anna Ege, and Joel's father Bill.
This will be McCartney's first Canadian visit since his controversial concert last summer in Quebec City. The Stills were chosen to open that show.
Later today on Grant Lawrence Live, hear the song Halifax indie-popsters Brent Randall and his Pinecones wrote specifically for Paul McCartney.
