Today's guests: Sarah Buchanan and Eli Leary
Summer is coming, and if I was the right age for summer camp, I'd be begging my mom to send me to a rock camp. I'm not talking about some kind of Camp Rock tween musical, I want to get hooked up with some serious gear and learn how to shred.
I've been doing a bit of research, and have found rock camps all across Canada - from Moncton and Mount Pearl to Peterborough and Parry Sound - click "read more" at the bottom of the post for a full list of all the links I found.
The Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, Oregon is one of the first camps run just for girls, and it is also home to an international coalition called Girls Rock Camp Alliance. The Girls Rock! documentary film was made there (trailer seen above), and if you want to start up your own rock camp for girls, they can hook you up.
That's what I've been told by Sarah Buchanan and Eli Leary anyway... Sarah and Eli are working hard on the first Girls Rock Camp Vancouver (on from August 17-21) and they join me on-air today to talk about why it's important to have a rock camp just for girls.
Girls Rock Camp Vancouver are having a Thrift Sale (June 6 at the Trout Lake Farmer's Market) and a live music event (with Clare Love, Wintermitts, 41st and Home on June 19 at Café Deux Soleils).Have you been to rock camp? Did it ROCK? If you can recommend a great music camp, please add your comments below!
