On the latest Great Lake Swimmers album Lost Channels, there's a 48 second song called "Singer Castle Bells". What you hear is exactly that - the ringing of castle bells. Built in the late 1800's, Singer Castle can be found on one of the Thousand Islands with a great name: Dark Island.
This is just one of the historical spots that Great Lake Swimmers set up their recording gear to record Lost Channels with the intention of capturing some natural ambiance of a unique location. In fact GLS are known for recording in natural spaces from old grain silos to London's Aeolian Hall. It's almost as if these locations become another member of the band.
In this Session, Tony Dekker takes us back to the recording process at Singer Castle in my sit down conversation and takes us on a musical journey that starts with angels and ends with a chorus in the underground.
