Last weekend's JunoFest was a trip. I bumped into a few folks I hadn't seen in a while like Ryder Havdale from Mohawk Lodge who recently moved to Toronto. When I saw him, he pulled out a CD and said: you gotta hear this!!
So I did. The next morning. Twice! Besides the superb vocals and songwriting from Edmonton based Eamon McGrath, the "lo-fi" recording quality is another one of the charms of his CD 13 Songs of Whiskey and Light.
In the album credits, he writes: "Recorded in the basement from 2006-2008." Well, this basement production gives the album some extra bite, some bonus grit.
For this podcast, I thought it would be good to hear some reflections on Eamon's music from Ryder who recently signed the young artist to his record label White Whale.
