If you're in Toronto some Sunday afternoon, and you happen to see a streetcar go by that's full of people doing way more interesting things than they usually do while riding transit, chances are you got a little taste of
Transit Tapes.
According to
the Torontoist, the project - which has artists performing in the back of chartered streetcars as they roll along the streets of Toronto - was launched by
Orbyt Media, and was inspired by
the Black Cab Sessions and
La Blogotheque.
Creator
Christian Bailey says he has always wanted to do something like this, and he chose streetcars as his venue because they connect people and neighbourhoods. He also hopes they will have the same soundtrack-like feel you get when you're on transit listening to music on headphones and watching the world go by.
So far,
Spiral Beach (click play above) and
the Priddle Concern are the only two that have been posted. But many more, including
Gentlemen Reg,
Arkells,
the Junction and more are coming soon.
Bailey hopes to accumulate roughly two dozen performances by the end of August, and you can find them all
on Orbyt's YouTube channel.
