iTunes Launches "Indie Spotlight"

iTunes may have become the largest music retailer in the world - but now it's getting in on the indie action.

The Apple-owned digital music service recently announced that it's adding an "Indie Spotlight" section to its website, which will exclusively feature independent acts, such as Malajube, A.C. Newman, Great Lake Swimmers, Jenn Grant, Cadence Weapon, Woodpigeon, Neko Case, Bon Iver, Vetiver, Cut Copy and Animal Collective.

The page is currently its "soft launch" phase, but includes an "Indie Spotlight Playlist" with information about the artists and their music, as well as "Featured Albums." The U.S. version also includes links to podcasts and videos.

    took long enough.

    The good thing about iTunes is the Free Track of the Week, they heavily promote Canadian and international Indie through it, I've gotten 2 Novillero tracks on there for free, 2 New Pornographers, and countless others by other Canadian bands. This week's Free Track is Gentleman Reg
